Band 6 nurse Karen Horton was struck off after fraudulently using a free hospital parking permit meant for relatives of end-of-life care patients, and falsely ordering zopiclone for personal use, an NMC fitness to practise panel found. Between 2021 and 2023, she abused her position, lied during investigations and showed limited insight. Despite partial admissions and colleagues’ support, she was dismissed for gross misconduct and banned from practice.
